Race Director Message
Welcome to the 8th Annual Winnipeg Police Service Half Marathon. Our event is set to take place on Sunday May 6, 2012. Early bird registration opens October 1, 2011 and we will formally kick off our event in early January, 2012. As always, I like to remind all potential participants, that we expect the sell out to be reached by the middle of January, so sign up as soon as you can.
When we started this event 8 years ago, we had humble goals and expectations. We hoped to put on a quality running event for participants and also raise some money for a cause that is important to our team. 8 years later we are proud to have accomplished both of those goals as demonstrated by the early sell out of the event and the incredible funds generated for the Canadian Cancer Society. In 2011 we all raised over $100,000.
For those who registered last year it was an event weekend that none of us will ever forget-even if we try! From the heavy rain at kit pick up, the power outages at the Police Academy, rain soaked race set up and a blizzard hitting at the perfect time. Our police helicopter could not come, no fly by, the awards ceremony was a bust and the course was a challenge. But the thing is, everyone who was there rose to the challenge of the day. The runners came in numbers that blew my mind, family and friends were present, our friends from the Police Service and Cancer Society took their posts and most amazing of all, our volunteers came out and made sure the day came together.
So, I hope you will join us for what I believe is the best event around for a great cause. While I don't want to relive last year's weather, I truly hope we build on the incredible positive atmosphere and comrade of the participants.

PS: It is true, a runner was hit by a deer in this year's race. Both the runner and the deer were fine!
